The Basics of Pancreatic Cancer and Its Treatment

The pancreases are a gland located behind the stomach and in front of the spine. It is responsible for secretion of enzymes, or digestive juices into the small intestine to further break down food after it has left the stomach. Perhaps the most important function of the pancreas is production of the hormone insulin. It is released into the bloodstream in order to regulate the body's glucose or sugar level and without that the blood sugar levels will soon spiral out of control causing a lot of problems.

What Causes Pancreatic Cancer?
Despite all the development in medical sciences very little is known behind the cause of pancreatic cancer. It has been found that this form of cancer is caused by defective DNAs in our gene. Because of the bad DNA, faulty cells are developed which later causes cancer. Also, it has been found that the cancer may be caused due to excessive smoking, long history of diabetes and poor lifestyle.

Treatment of Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer treatment in Delhi; like other cancer treatments, begin with diagnosis and staging. This is very important before treatment proceeds to the next phase. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are subsequent stages of cancer treatment. Chemotherapy uses drugs to treat cancer, while radiation therapy uses X-rays or other kinds of radiation to kill cancer cells. Both forms of cancer are effective and are provided in leading hospitals in New Delhi.

Breast Surgery Choosing Between Segmental and Total Mastectomy

Mastectomy is considered the first and most common solution to breast cancer. There are two different forms of mastectomy but there are several things that you need to understand.

Which is the right kind of surgery for you?
Based on the diagnosis and medical information collected by your doctor, you will be advised upon the best course of action. Discuss your options and understand why the option they have suggested is the best. Compare advantages of both with your doctor to decide the best course of action.

Segmental Mastectomy

When the cancer hasn’t spread over to a wide area and is limited to a small portion, segmental mastectomy is suggested. In this form of surgery only the affected part is surgically removed, keeping the remaining part of the breasts intact. This is also known as breast conserving surgery. However, one needs to understand that a patient will have to undergo radiation therapy to prevent spreading of cancer to adjoining areas.

Total Mastectomy

When the cancer has spread over a wide area, total removal of all affected cells is necessary and only that eliminates the risk of further complications. But before you rush to consider this as your choice of surgery understand that this doesn’t necessarily eliminate all chances of cancer later in life.

After Breast cancer Surgery India you will need about 2 to 4 weeks. You may observe some stiffness in your body while you are recovering. It will take some time to recover completely and get back to resuming your normal lifestyle. To know more about surgical procedures and their aftereffects do consult with your doctor at the earliest.
